Today I want to talk about the feeling of fear that I find very interesting. Fear is a vital response to physical and emotional danger — if we didn’t feel it, we couldn’t protect ourselves from legitimate threats. But often we fear situations that are far from life-or-death, and thus hang back for no good reason. Traumas or bad experiences can trigger a fear response within us that is hard to eliminate. Yet exposing ourselves to our personal demons is the best way to move past them.
I have been working as a physiotherapist and back pain specialist for over 20 years now and every day I meet back pain sufferers that struggle with fear. I have also personally struggled with feelings of fear over the past 20 years after I received a very serious debilitating back injury playing hockey.
I want you to take a quick second to take a little journey with me…
Let’s imagine for a second your life is going to stay the same.
You’ll make the same amount of money.
You’ll have the same relationships.
Most of all, you´ll have the same back pain problems
And they won’t EVER go away.
You´ll always struggle with muscle aches, shooting or stabbing pain, pain that radiates down your leg, Pain that worsens with bending, lifting, standing or walking
I want you to vividly picture what that would look like.
How would you feel?
What would you see when you look in the mirror?
What would your friends and family think of you?
I know it may be painful to think about…but it’s important to understand there is a cost of doing NOTHING.
I’m not trying to be harsh or make you feel bad. I just know that sometimes the best way to improve your life is to realize you want more.
If you don’t decide to take action and make a change then how can you expect things to improve?
The scary thing is that this scenario is more realistic than you may realize.
Just think, how long have you suffered from your back pain and wanted a solution?
“If you keep doing what you’ve been doing for the past year, 2 years, or 5 years and nothing has changed…then how can you expect the next few years to be any different.”
So do something about it. Take control. Make a change.
