Hey guys, this is Robin Wakeham from the Back Pain Secrets podcast and today I wanna talk about why you shouldn’t let your feelings control your back pain.
This thing of being negative and thinking no instead of yes, instead of thinking this will never work out to say this, it will work out is hard.
To give you a bit of backstory, I injured my back 25 years back playing ice hockey. And for three years I was struggling with back pain, daily painkillers, sleeping badly, restricted movements, couldn’t do what I was wanting to do and it was hard.
And I slipped into this dark place where I started to become very, very negative. And I read some books and I talked to some people, but I had a hard time to break out, right? To, to come out from that dark place.
So I’m not a smart guy. So I needed to simplify this stuff. So I did it very easy for me, very, very easy. Instead of thinking, no, that was, that was, like my default. I felt, no, this will not work out, blah, blah, blah. I thought I started to think yes instead. Just switched. Switch over like that.
So a few examplesm instead of saying, “Eh, this will never work out.” You could say, this will work out. How can I make this workout? Instead of saying there’s everything, there’s never anything good on TV, you could say, I’m going to go off for a walk instead.
You need to reprogram your head. Okay. In order for this to work and keep it very simple. Uh, I actually got this concept, from this TV show Seinfeld, have you guys seen it?
I love it. Eh, you, if you haven’t checked it out, but I know you have, everyone has more or less, it’s worldwide. I have all the cds at home and there’s one episode specifically that, that I really like. It’s where George, that’s the short, stocky guy. He has problems getting dates. He wanted to meet more women and his behavior has in the past has been in this specific way and he never gets any dates.
Right. So He’s, he’s sitting at the cafe and he thinks I’m just going to do the opposite of what I want usually do. Okay. So he starts to, he doesn’t shave, he stopped shaving. He gets like a track suit on. He, looks like a bum more or less, you know, and he has this, attitude that he doesn’t really care and he’s picking up all of these women.
And he’s having success. So that’s the, whole episode is about him doing the opposite of what he used to do and he has success. And that’s what I did as well with this stuff. And I kept it very simple.
So why am I talking about this guys? Because there’s so many patients that I see every day that’s in the same position place, they’re in a dark place. They want to break out from this dark place and become a yes person instead of a no person. But they’re having, they’re struggling.
They don’t really know how to do it. And it’s eating them up and it’s creating more back pain for them and it’s making them suffer more and more. So you need to keep this simple and give this a try for a few weeks, you know?
It’s going to be hard in the beginning, but just instead of thinking, no, I think yes, that’s, that’s like the basis of it. And it works. It definitely works. And like I’ve been talking to in, in other podcast episodes, you need to keep away from the negative people because the negative people will definitely drag you down.
It’s very easy to become more negative if you’re around negative people. So just think, yes, think positive. Go for it. Give it a go and that could definitely help your back pain. Guys, this is a short one, but it’s very important. And guys, remember you’re just one step away from healing your back pain
