Hey guys, this is Robin Wakeham from the Back Pain Secrets podcast and today I want to talk about being a workaholic, specifically you being a workaholic and that could be the reason why you are in back pain, my friend.
To give you a bit of a backstory around this, 24, 25 years back, I had a serious back injury. I injured my back at playing ice hockey. I was depressed, I was on painkillers for three years. I visited anyone that could help me, but I ended up reading a lot of books, I went into a physiotherapy university for six years. I and reduced my own back pain.
After that, I have always been an entrepreneur. So I like to build stuff. I mean this is my third company now. So the first company I had was an online business where we were selling health products to reduce back pain.
The other product, second company I had was regarding physiotherapy. And this company is actually running still. I’ve been building that now for many years and when I built those two companies, first off, I had to spend a hell of a lot of time guys to build it.
For the first year and a half, I spent like 60,70 – 80 hours a week to build those companies up. And it was hard. And when, you’re working that much, in the beginning you need a lot of time then you don’t go to the gym as often. Plus you also ignore friends and family and you’re saying no to most all the stuff around you.
And that goes good for awhile, But this stuff that you’re not focusing on such as your health – is going to start to go down. If you’re not focusing on your loved ones, then those relationships are also going to create problems in the relationships.
So what I’m getting at here is that it’s very, important that when you’re building something, when you’re focused, and you start a new job or you want to do some project and you’re really focused and you want to achieve that, then you need to be very conscious of what you want to achieve.
But also that for the first, year, you’re going to need to say no to a lot of things, other things in order for you to, achieve what we want to achieve but you also need to hit the gym. And also spend time with family because if you don’t do that, you’re definitely going to experience more back pain.
If you have a tendency of having back pain,then you need to take care of your health in order for you to, be around for many years and also succeed and get energy to, create what you want to do. And also make sure to spend time with your family.
It’s because of these two things, your health and your family or friends just disappear, then really a lot of times the other stuff that you’re building, it doesn’t seem, that important anymore. So what am I getting here guys?
I meet a lot of people that were very driven when they come into my office here, a lot of business people and they are high achievers, they’re putting in the hours and, they have back pain.
Everyone comes in here or a lot of people come in and they say, well, this is stress. It is stress related and I agree stress can definitely, irritate your back and increase the pain you’re in. But for some that’s also very important to understand that there’s good stress and there’s bad stress.
Oftentimes when you’re building something and when you are very focused and you feel passionate around something then you do and can do more. You are stressed, you can take on more stress because you’re so driven to achieve what we all want to do. So that’s the good stress. When you feel like you’re fulfilling yourself, you’re building yourself up, you’re growing.
Bad stress is when you, might be in a job and you have a boss that’s just from hell who just gives you shit. Everything you do, you know, even if it’s good or bad, they’re just on your case. They’re watching the clock all the time. They’re trying to, basically control every move you make.
That stuff is bad stress and you need to leave that and you need to do whatever you do. You need to change jobs or, just change the environment. Because that’s going to definitely not just be about your back, but it will also affect your mental capacity. So think of that, good stress and bad stress.
If you want to build something and if you’re focused on a project or something, you need to go in with open eyes and understand that in order for me to succeed with this, I need to say no to most of the other things that is around me for a period of time. But don’t forget your health. Go for walks, stand up and talk to your family, talk to your wife, take care of your kids. Because it’s, those two things that are really, important in your life.
It’s very hard when you build stuff and your focus to achieve something, there’s a lot of people around you that’s constantly trying to, keep you down almost. I’m experiencing this at the moment, and this is my third company now, – this back pain secrets company that I am building where I want to help 1 million people to heal their back pain online without drugs or surgery.
And in order for me to do that, I need to put in the hours. That’s why I’m up at four every morning, seven days a week, and doing these podcasts. And I’m doing other stuff as well, you know, because I want to achieve something. I want to build this , it’s fun to do it, but I always want to take care of my family and I want to take care of my health.
So that’s, what I’m up to, so I can get all the other parts in my life going for me as well. I know I’ve been rambling a bit on this episode, but I hope that if you’ve been in any of the similarities that I’m talking about then – just stay focused, but don’t forget to take care of your family and take care of your health!
