BPS #65 How can I cure my back pain?

This is Robin from the Back Pain Secrets Podcast, and today’s question is, how can I cure my back pain? I have a little thing for you before this. I have a little episode that happened in my life here the other day that just started to get me to think.

My son and his friend, they had like their first double date with two girls. We went to the amusement park. I was babysitting them. They didn’t really want to hang around with me so I was sitting at a café, just working along there and trying to get my website to convert. They were coming back and forth asking me for money and stuff.

When I saw these four small kids, you know, they’re like 10-11 years old, I actually remembered the first time I went on a date, with a girl, how giggly I was and how much butterflies I had in my belly and how awkward I felt.

I remember the feeling I had. Now, I’m a 46-year-old man. I have a graze in my beard. I got a bit of a stomach and just life, you know, has happened to me. I have two kids myself, with my wife. We have our family.

I just came to think about it that life is so precious. We have a few years on earth and we really ...

BPS #064 When should I see my doctor about back pain?

This is Robin from the Back Pain Secrets Podcast, and today’s question is, when should I see a doctor for my back pain? Common question, but before I do that, I’m going to tell you something personal that I can’t really figure out and see if you have the same problems.

I am happily married since 20 years back. I have a wonderful daughter, 13 years old and a son James, 10 years old. What I’m really thinking about, and I see this a lot with my female patients as well, is that they use these shoes. The shoes look good, but they’re killing their feet. It’s really painful.

I have the same problem with my daughter and my wife. They’re walking around in these shoes and it’s painful for them. They get problems with their toes, their heels, their back, okay? I can’t figure this out. It’s just you want to look good, but you want to look good and also be comfortable. At least, that’s the way I feel, my son feels, and the majority of men out there.

I’m giving this tip to all you girls out there, women. Guys or women, please get some shoes that you actually enjoy that are comfortable, th ...

BPS #063 What causes Recurrent Disc Herniation?

This is Robin from the Back Pain Secrets Podcast and today, we’re going to talk about what is a recurring disk herniation guys? I hope that you guys enjoy the back here. I got some new background. The wife as you know, if you’ve watched a few of the other episodes, I had some really bad stuff in the back. The wife told me, no you can’t have old underwear hanging up, old t-shirts. You look like a slob.

What I did, I got this cool poster, basically. Every time I’m going to do podcasts now, I have that behind me. I have all my dirty stuff and all my chaotic stuff behind that. So anyway, today’s question, what is a recurring disc herniation guys?

As always, I had this this patient way back. We can call him Daniel. He’s 29 years old. He’s a biker. He loves to ride his bike, these racing bikes. He’s training like four to five times a week, really. He’s really hardcore, but like a year back, he had like after a long ride, he’d been out for a few hours, he had this pop in his back and it started start off quite slow but then it increased more and more.

First, it had like spread a warm feeling a ...

BPS #062 Are Herniated Discs Common?

This is Robin from the Back Pain Secrets Podcast and today, we’re going to talk about herniated disc. Is a herniated disc a common thing? Does it affect many people? That’s today’s topic. But before we do that, I’m going to go off-script a bit because something happened this morning, and I just want to get your take on it, okay?

So as you might know by now, I have a family. I have my lovely wife Linda and my daughter Kelly, that is 13 and my son James, that is 10, okay? For the most part, my kids, they’re great. They’re just being kids, and sometimes they mess up and sometimes they don’t.

As a parent, you know, I’m constantly amazed how much stuff you have to learn and go through, because there’s not really a manual about how to be a dad. Obviously, I’m not hitting my kids. I don’t believe in that, but I do yell sometimes, especially before. I used to yell a lot especially when I get rounded up and I didn’t feel that I could take care of the situation. I raised my voice, okay?

But that stuff, over the years, I’ve noticed that doesn’t really help at all. So I made a d ...

BPS #061 Is A Hot Bath Good For Sciatica

Welcome back, guys. So today’s topic is, is it good to have a hot bath when you have sciatica? But before we get into all of that, I’m going to talk about something else. Just a short story that’s all going to be related to your sciatica and back pain. So listen up, okay?

As you guys might know by now, I’m on vacation. I’ve been doing these podcasts over the past three weeks. It’s a long vacation. It’s the longest vacation I’ve actually had for 15 years. I had three weeks off. I’m loving it. I’m doing these. I’m working a bit you know, just checking the emails and also doing these podcasts that I really enjoy. That actually relaxes me. It’s like my own therapy. So it’s great.

Anyway, so over the past six months, I’ve been doing this online stuff heavily, doing the marketing for it and that’s brand-new for me. I’ve worked as a backpain specialist for 20 years. I have some knowledge. I wrote a book and I want to get that out to the world, right?

So I’m behind the computer. I’m working quite a lot, like 70 hours a week, trying to get my message out and b ...

BPS #060 Is Sciatica A Lifelong Condition

Welcome back, guys. So today, we’re going to talk about, is sciatica a life-long condition, okay? And as always, I have today’s story and today’s story is about Tara. She’s a patient that I treated a year back. Tara is 31 years old. She’s female and she lives in the UK.

I was treating her over my Skype call. I do Skype calls with patients all over the world, and she was one of them. So she’s a dancer, Tara, okay, and she usually dances four to five times a week. She’s been doing this consistently for like 20 years, okay?

That’s just her identity. She identifies herself as a dancer. Two years back, she was doing some exercise, some twists in the dance, and she felt like radiation like someone basically put a knife in her back. Since then she has had recurring episodes of sciatica and lower back pain. It comes and goes.

A year back, she had an MRI and the MRI showed she had a slipped disc on level L5-S1, okay? So she has a condition. It’s in black and white, but she’s doing her dancing and she’s trying to just live life.

But whenever she’s twisting and turning, and also ...

BPS #059 Can Stress Cause Sciatica To Flare Up

Welcome back, guys. So today’s topic is, can stress increase your sciatica pain, okay? I’m going to tell you a bit of a story here, and to give you a bit of a backstory about the story, I’m going to talk about Jenny. Jenny is 29 years old and about two, two-and-a-half years back, she had started to have sciatica pain okay, and the MRI showed that she had a herniated disc on L4-L5 and she’s been suffering with this sciatica pain on and off, you know, during these years.

She’s taking painkillers randomly. She’s visited a physiotherapist doing like core stability exercises. She tried acupuncture, all kinds of creams. She even wore a bracelet like a lumbar belt for a while you know.

But it comes off and on and she has more or less a constant pain in her left hip okay, and it’d radiate down her leg, down to her knee, down to her calf, and foot like off and on during the day.

Because of this, she’s feeling depressed okay, because she’s not able to move as much, and before this sciatica stuff, she was suffering from depression or not suffering. She was battling depression and the thing that was helping her ...

BPS #058 Is Massage Good For Sciatica

Today, we’re going to talk about, is it good to get a massage when you have sciatica pain? But before I get into all that, I need to just tell you a bit, what I’ve been up to the last couple of days and bear with me for the story here. There’s something for you back pain sufferers out there.

So I went to Malmo with my wife and kids to visit my brother and his wife and their kids, and we had like one day together and then I got sick. I got really sick. I had a bad cold. In the middle of the summer, I had a high temperature, nose, throat, you name it. You know, I was in bed, a big man cold. You could definitely say that.

And while I was in bed just lying, I was feeling sorry for myself that I’m missing out on all the fun they were out having. They actually went to Copenhagen that is very close to Malmo, and they went on an amusement park and all of this. But I missed everything. I was in bed.

So I was in bed there and my thoughts started to wander you know back about 10-15 years back in time when I was suffering really bad from back pain from this ice hockey incident that I’ve been in. And something that really helped ...

BPS #057 How Should You Sit With Sciatica

Today, we’re going to talk about how you should sit when you have sciatica. This is a very common question and the best answer is really to move about. You shouldn’t sit at all, but sometimes, especially if you’re at work and you have certain things to do, you have to sit. So that’s what we’re going to talk about.

To give you guys a bit of a backstory here, I’m going to tell you the story about Kim. Kim is about 30 years old. She’s female and she has had sciatica for about six months now. It’s located mostly in her left leg, all the way down to her foot, and she has a tingling sensation and some kind of weakness.

She had an MRI for this and it showed she had a slipped disc at L5-S1, a very, very common level to have a slipped disc. So she has this and the pain is just horrible you know, especially when she’s sitting. It’s just irritating her very, very much.

Internally, Kim was struggling right now because she’s just had a big promotion at work. She’s actually like the lead air traffic controller at an airport, and what she does essentially, is she’s controlling all the pl ...

BPS #056 Does Sitting Make Sciatica Worse

Today, we’re going to talk about does sitting make your sciatica worse? Before I start to talk about that, I want to talk about my book, guys, okay? I wrote this book. So originally, I made in Swedish and I sold like 5000-6000 copies. I translated it into English. It’s called Back Pain Secrets.

If you were just listening to the podcast now, I also have a video podcast, but now you can’t see the book. Anyway, this book is selling right now, and I’m very happy about it. I’m selling a few copies daily in English, Back Pain Secrets.

The big problem I have, though I know the message that I have in the book really delivers, but the problem I’m having is the technical issues, because I’m technically incompetent. So I got the website up and I’m on Version 4 now.

So last week, I thought everything was going good. Orders were coming in and I was getting good response and stuff. I had these tech nerds all around the world that are helping me to do the more advanced stuff because I’m really on a basic level.

So last week, the website crashed again. It was just horrible, and I didn’t really know what to d ...
